"Building Leaders in the Bastrop Region"

The B.E.S.T. Leadership Program is a hallmark initiative of the Bastrop Regional Chamber of Commerce, serving participants from Bastrop, Elgin, and Smithville - the communities that give the program its name.
Founded in 2004 by the Bastrop Chamber, this eight-session program (September-May) identifies and develops current and emerging leaders by introducing them to the people, places, and systems that shape Bastrop County. Over nine months, participants gain a deeper understanding of local needs and learn how their individual talents can be combined to build a stronger, more successful community.
Led by Jon Rector of Rector Leadership LLC., sessions offer behind-the-scenes access to city, county, and state-level government, local businesses, and community service organizations. Training covers:
Since its inception, the B.E.S.T. Leadership Program has graduated more than 400 participants. Many have gone on to serve on city councils, nonprofit and civic boards, and in other influential community roles. Program content is reviewed annually by participants, facilitators, and leaders to ensure it reflects current trends, needs, and opportunities.
Employers often sponsor participation, recognizing the benefits of stronger leadership skills in the workplace and the community.
